For a long time I had a hard time sleeping. I could’t shut my brain and fall in a deep sleep. Too many screens before bed, stress, excess of caffeine affects the quality of sleep and contribute to insomnia. Here I will present my technique towards dreamland.
I learned how to trigger sleep at any moment of the day after applying a simple yoga breathing technique. I inhale for a count of three and then exhale to a count of three — all through the nose, which adds a natural resistance to the breath. After you get the basis you don’t need to count, it will become natural. This breath can help take your mind off the racing thoughts, or whatever might be distracting you from sleep.
I apply this technique before bed and even at work for a quick 15 minutes power nap as a replacement for coffee. It calms the nervous system, increase focus and reduce stress.
Your eyes are a reflection of your soul and moreover a sign of healthiness. I am a free rider which means I work during the night till’ morning. After long shifts my eyes begin to hurts. We know that night-time exposure to blue light keeps people up late.
How does it work?
F.lux adjusts the colors of your screen and reduces the stimulating effects of blue light during nigh time.Makes the color of your computer’s display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.
Why blue light effects sleep?
Melanopsin is a photoreceptor founded in retinal ganglion cells in the human eye. Studys show that this photopigment is sensitive to a narrow band of blue light in the 460-480 nm range, and has an effect on quality of sleep.
F.lux it’s available on Windows/ linux/ Mac/ Iphone/Ipad
For Android users similar app: Twilight
Think over next scenario: You are caught in a area where a festival is held and a massive flux of people come. You are lost in space, your smartphone doesn’t reach the tower communication because it’s overloaded by all people that are desperate of communicate. They leave the internet connection switched on all the time in the desire to be up to date with all apps.
A simple&effective trick
A good trick that I learned by myself is switching your cell phone network connection on GSM (2.5g) instead of using dual band UMTS (3g). In that way your cell phone reaches a less busy communication tower. On I-phone you just toggle of 3g connection. This tip should also help your phones battery life. Even when you would have a good 3G coverage, turning the connection to GSM only will help battery life immensely.
